This excerpt comes from the second movement, Dwelling in Reality, of Carey Tan’s Symphony No. 3, The Rise and Fall of AI Humanity.

In the first movement, humanity reaches an agreement with artificial intelligence. AI takes over construction, production, labour, and social order. Human beings are freed from work and given comfort, resources, and leisure. At first, this seems like a more efficient and perfect world.

But after living in this effortless AI civilisation for some time, something begins to change inside the human mind.

People begin to miss the old reality: slower, harder, and far less perfect, but deeper in thought and warmer in human feeling. That former world contained fatigue, pressure, and uncertainty, but also responsibility, creativity, connection, and emotional truth.

In this passage, the full orchestra releases a great inner wave. Outwardly, society remains calm, and the AI order still functions. But inwardly, doubt has appeared.

The music describes not rebellion yet, but awakening.
