Movement I. All Souls Together — Love Beyond

I. all souls together — love beyond

The first movement is about love, connection, and togetherness.

It begins with Ethereal, at a very slow tempo. For the opening moments there is only the choir. In the warmth of G major, the voices sing:

always together
love is at the centre of the universe
together within HIM

There is no great orchestral gesture yet. The voices simply exist together. They sing together, breathe together, and remain in harmony. From the very beginning, love is presented not merely as an emotion between two people, but as something at the centre of existence itself.

The next section, Warm, introduces what might be imagined as the sounds of angels. Different instruments begin to emerge and come together, one after another. The writing is simple and melodic, filled with warm, memorable lines. Rather than overwhelming the listener, the orchestra gradually surrounds the voices with colour, as though the small world established by the choir is beginning to glow.

This leads into Connected, the first great climax of the symphony.

Its harmonic language is deliberately uncomplicated. Much of the section is built from blocks of triads — for example, C major, B minor, C major, E minor. Yet these simple movements of harmony create an extraordinary emotional weight when the whole orchestra and choir begin to move together.

The choir sings:

Love is now infinite!
Together our souls sing!
The first language of the universe!
Whoever you are, we love you!

The idea grows still further:

All around and inside us
flows the power of love!
Joy and wisdom from GOD,
in HIM, HIM in us!

Here, the music no longer presents love as something private. It becomes universal. The orchestra expands, the voices gather together, and the movement reaches its most openly radiant moment: whoever you are, we love you.

But the true emotional heart of the movement comes afterwards.

Intimate withdraws from the enormous communal sound and turns toward a single human being. The music becomes more personal, more tender, and more vulnerable. The choir sings:

Whatever you go through,
know that GOD is e'er with you.
HE loves you no matter who you are
and what you have done:
love is eternal, and immortal.

Woodwinds, brass and finally strings gently surround these words. Tubular bells enter not as a display of grandeur, but as a distant, spiritual colour.

At the end, the tenors and basses sing quietly:

Love forever,
GOD eternal.
Love forever,
Amen.

The movement began with everyone together. It ends by speaking almost directly to one soul.
